help with new setup

I recently bought a 40 gal breeder, a 46 gal bow front. I want to make the display tank the 46 gal, and the breeder the SUMP/REFUGE. I feel I best ask you what I can do to make this work. My stand can hold both tanks so the 40 gal will be on the bottom. My filtration is a Ehiem 2229 and a 150 gal. How can I make the sump work? What hose pumps for return can I use? Overflow box etc...thanks in advance !

Life Reef is an excellent company to get the equipmnet you will need. You have some very good resources right there in Chicago. We have members there that I'm sure would be glad to give you a helping hand! I'll let them chime in rather than volunteering them. Happy reefing!

Naperville here.

Tell us more about what you want in your tank. No mermaid tanks until I get mine.

Re: help with new setup

Well I want a 100% Softy Display tank, with two fish. Chevron Tang, and maybe a 6-line wrasse.

I want PC, or T5 HO lighting. The 40 gal breeder will have to be a fuge, but my skimmer is hang on so I am not sure how it will work. It is a SeaClone 150. Any Ideas advice would be helpful. I have currently a 24 gal nano reef, which has thrived very well for the past 5 months. I have not lost any fish and coraline algae has started to grow without any treatment.

Thanks in advance

Chevron Tang is way to big for that size tank. Mine would barely have enought room to turn around.

Do you have enough room under your stand to set the protein skimmer on the outside on the refuge?

Re: help with new setup

I would invest in a different skimmer if you can. I had one of those when I first got my tank, it was really hard to adjust, and didn't do a very good job. I lost your number, and don't have your pm any more, so I don't know if you're still interested in some Xenia, but if you are, I still have some. It sounds like you're getting a pretty sweet upgrade, I can't wait to see some pictures. I want a fuge.

Ok which one will be enough for my 46gal? The single box or double?

Also what return pump should I use?
