Calcium Reactor

What is need to run a maintence free calcium reactor? I have a 40 gallon tank with a sump. I saw the acro-cal calcium reactor is only 40 bucks. I would still need a PH controller and CO2 tank and what else?? Also when I decide to step it up to a 200gallon tank can I use all the old equipment just switch out the calcium reactor? Newbie question, thanks for the help

Re: Calcium Reactor

it will never be maintence free although you can get pretty close....I wouldn't recommend going with a cheap reactor, you get what you pay for in this hobby

Re: Calcium Reactor

I second that. When I bought my first reactor I got a small cheep one and I regret buying it. I then made my first DIY reactor and it did good. but I had to bleed it from time to time. Now that I have a 300 gal and a 60 gal frag tank I use calcium like it is beer at a beer fest. I upgraded to a larger one, with a port at the top of the reactor that recycles the co2 the gathers at the top of the reactor and now I only have to make sure that it does not clog and add more media. you diffidently get what you pay for.

good luck
