Re: building Over flow box?

its actually super simple
get the acrylic from any hardware store
Weld on (acrylic glue) available at Mcclendin hardware store or online
use table saw to cut the acrylic. feed backwards to minimize cracking. even easier with a router table if you have one.
you can also put the acrylic sheet in the oven for 7 minutes @ 350 degrees, then wrap it around a block of wood to attain desired shape.

good luck

a little bit, but wear gloves and hold on tight! you can also use a plywood blade which has more teeth but i just use the regular blade

I treat it just like wood, but take my time. Even if you are not comfortable feeding it backwards, you just have to really take your time. I even use regular all purpose drill bits on acrylic, just go very very slow. like 60 seconds per hole under a drill press.

you should experiment with the oven thing, its fun and you can shape it how ever you want but you have to have something to wrap it around. for the over flow box, i would cut a block of wood to size, take the plexi out of the oven and quickly wrap it around the block, rub it down with a wet rag, and then close the end with weld on. once its hot its just like a piece of paper and you can always put it back in the oven and start over. iKnow this guy who made a perfect 29 gallon bow front tank using his home oven!!!

Re: building Over flow box?

Varga, what thickness acrylic are you using when you do this? I have some ideas I'd like to play with.

Re: building Over flow box?

turning the blade around so it's backwards and feeding the plastic through the normal direction works also.
I used THESE plans to build mine, it works great. I made it bigger though.

Re: building Over flow box?

Maybe the question should be - internal or external? Great plans for the external one
