Re: over flow?

You want the flow on the pump to be a bit less than the overflow is rated for. You can put a valve on the return pump and reduce the flow if that is necessary. Also you should consider what the flow from the return pump is at the height it is pumping, flow decreases with head height.

Re: over flow?

Check this chart out...

Danner Mag-Drive Supreme 7 700 GPH Water Pump (Saltwater Aquarium Supplies > Water Pumps > Submersible > 500-1000 GPH )

For example, if you are pumping up 5 feet with a Mag 7, the flow would only be 420gph.

Re: over flow?

The amount of turnover to the sump depends on what you plan to do with it. For my 55, I get about 500gph out of my return pump, so it cycles through about 10x per hour. If you want more flow in the DT, you can make up for it with powerheads.

Can you post a link to the sump and overflow you are looking at?

Re: over flow?

Just to let you know, I have two of the EShopps overflow boxes. I don't have anything but good things to say about them BUT they do NOT provide the amount of flow that a LifeReef overflow box does. I have two of the lifereefs too.

The two eshopps I have, have dual 1" bulkheads and I think I'm getting around 900 gph from it.

You can't argue with the price and they have never failed to maintain siphon and they are good pieces of equipment. I just wanted to let you know about the flow so you can account for it in your calculations.

They also don't use standard sized PVC connectors for bulkheads. I'm not sure what size they use.
