| Tunicate | 2 new skimmers I am in the process of setting up a 50 gal tub reef ready with 20 long sump. This will be a mixed reef. I have been reading several posts and forums and still confused. I am undecided between the ASM G-1, DAS EX-1, and EURO REEF RS-80. The #1 thing I am looking for is the best skimmer with the least number of mods. can anyone help me? I am trying not to go over $350.00 for this one. I am also looking for a new skimmer for my 20L nano-reef tank without a sump, so I will need it to be HOT. I will be using this primarly as a frag tank. I currently have a remora w/1200 maxi jet on it and I am really not impressed. What are some good choices for a replacement HOT skimmer. I have found the precision marine and the corallife super skimmer and they both look ok. Any pros or cons between these or are there any other suggestions besides the $300.00 deltec. I just can't afford that one for the 20L. |

| Totally stoked dude ![]() | Re: 2 new skimmers I haven't used a Remora personally so I can't really help you there, but I do think some folks use a mag drive pump on them with good results, I can't speak from experience though. I personally wasn't impressed with the Corallife Super Skimmers, but I'm used to Euroreef and Lifereef quality skimmers... Regarding your other skimmer choices, I'm partial to the Euroreef skimmers (I like the build quality and how the skimmer feels solid, some cheaper skimmers feel like cheap plastic toys in your hands) but from what I see the ASM should perform just as well. The DAS EX-1 is about $100 more than the ER and I would consider in a higher class. You will need to add a feed pump or tee off your return or drain line to feed it. Also take a look at the Octopus skimmers, you should find something in your price range there as well. Both the ASM and Euroreef RS series would be the easiest to use, just sit in sump and plug in. Adjust the riser pipe a little bit and clean the cup every few days.
