Thumbs down scratches starfire glass outside

I have a two inch linear scatch and three smaller buff type zone scratches on the front surface of a new starfire tank.

interested in your opinion on ability to have it professionally "fixed" or is this
even possible.

I wanted to get your professional or experience opinion before I talk to the shop
I bought the tank from. The more I know the better I think.

I think they must have scratched it in transport or maybe in set up.

Thanks

Bill

I think that scratches in glass are permanent...

I would call them up. You cannot buff out glass. Also you need to know that starphire is a lot softer then regular glass. You will need to be careful in the future.
welcome to RS!

Re: scratches starfire glass outside

yes, you can have it buffed out to a certain degree. The problem is that depending on the depth of the scratch, the removal of the surrounding material will create some sort of distortion ranging from barely visible to fisheye in apearance

Re: scratches starfire glass outside

Can't you just fill in the scratch with super glue, let that set, then buff it down to smooth? Like they do to fix a chip in a car windshield...

The problem i see happening with this Terry is the glue turning yellow over time from exposure to the intense lighting in an aquarium. I believe they use polymers when filling glass in.

Re: scratches starfire glass outside

amazing really.. you would think an outside scratch would be easier to fix because you can take your time and do whatever it needs..

don't want to make the problem area worse.!!
