Biocube Skimmer

I've got a BioCube protein skimmer for my 14 Gallon Nano... it skims really wet, and I notice it does take stuff out, but not sure it's the best one... anyone with experience or advice?

Re: Biocube Skimmer

I have the fission nano skimmer that i used to use in my 12 gallon nano...
I had to modify the hood so I could get it to stick far enough out of the water to foam properly. Even then, mine was very wet too.
Because there isn't enough space to put it in the sump, it hung in the tank, taking up a lot of space and looking very unattractive. I felt it wasn't doing that much anyway so I decided to take it out as a test.
5 months later....my water chemistry has not changed and all of my corals are still doing well. For now....I will not be putting a skimmer back in my nano. It's doing fine, and loooks better without it. I will post some pics soon...
My theory is that nano skimmers are too small to work very effectively.

Re: Biocube Skimmer

to get it to skim wetter or dryer you have to adjust the air going into the venturi.....higher or lower.

Re: Biocube Skimmer

I have the BC 14 skimmer as well and until I did the following it skimmed very wet. The trick with that guy is to get the foam going just up over the rim of the reaction chamber, not the collection cup. Make that adjustment and you will get crusty foam and tea colored water after a couple days.

Probbaly not the best skimmer in the world but it is working.

Re: Biocube Skimmer

That seems to have fixed it... also, do you change the wood block as frequently as they suggest? I'm thinking that's excessively frequent, sound like a money grab to sell more parts...

Re: Biocube Skimmer

You guys besides Reefman, might wanna pick up a different skimmer all together. They aren't the best and probably worse than the most worse.
