| Torch coral | Re: Skimmer advice...PLEASE I have a remora HOB on my 40g and used it on my 50g also. I dont know if its rated for your size tank I would have to look. It doesnt really use an over flow but you can purchase one for extra, its called a surface skimmer I think. Basically it does three things: 1) The pump is gray so it can be seen against a black background and the box is black so it blends in and hides the pump. 2) It has a sponge on the return side to get rid of microbubbles. 3) It skims the surface.

| Bryozoan | Re: Skimmer advice...PLEASE Second the Remora Pro suggestion, & go with the Mag-Drive 3 option if possible. I bought a Remora (not pro) a while back for my 30 gal, and the max size I'd go tank wise with a Remora is prob just 30G, but then again I had a moderate to heavy bioload - fish wise. Skimmer is on the noisy side, and kicks alot of bubbles in the tank. I read alot of mixed stuff about the surface skimmer, so I ended up hanging the Remora in the sump.. I upgraded to a 55G and my Remora is just collecting dust.. The stock Remora pro comes with a Rio 1400. All 3 of my Rio pumps broke down partially or completely in the first year. My Mag drive's are still running for 2 yrs plus, no glitches. The best choice I made when I chose another skimmer for my 55G (+30G Sump) was to pick a skimmer rated for 2X the size of my tank, in my case I picked up an Octopus NW-150 (rated for 150G). In the long run it gives you room to grow and add a sump, etc. -Axl |
