Led

Hi. I have power compacts and am looking to upgrade. I'm wondering if anybody has PFO Galilea Led lighting. It looks really cool, but I want to know from somebody with experience. It's alot of money to spend if they aren't really good lights. My tank is 55gal. I don't want my lighting to be a limiting factor in wich corals I choose anymore. thanks

Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Led

the Galileo is for fresh water or fish only tanks the "I Series' is the one you would need to have corals.

Re: Led

I am busy trying to save enough money for a Solaris. Great lighting and a major cost savings on electricity and bulb replacement. You just have to live through the start-up costs.

Re: Led

This seems promising. What are the drawbacks of led lighting? I'm kind of leary of using cutting edge tech.

Re: Led

So far the only drawback I am aware of is the starting price. The Solaris units are getting rave reviews from everybody I know who has one. They are highly programmable so you can set the lights for whatever kelvin value you want, times of day, etc. You can even program for the moon phases and add in cloudy days etc. They say the bulbs will last for 10years though I don't believe they have been around long enough to prove that. The do dramatically reduce the heat output and electric input so you save a considerable amount of money just there. I believe when I figured it out the unit would pay for itself in saved electric and bulb costs after about 2 years so I would be ahead of the game for approx 8 years. Sounds good to me. I just have to get by that initial cost and I am in.

Drawbacks

1. Price
2. Shipping LOL
3. Some people will always bash it because they're new, and people are afraid of change.
4. Ummm thats all I can think of.

The few problems that some people have had with them have been small and fixed rather quickly from what I've seen. I'm looking forward to receiveing that call from Jack that mine has made it in and is ready for pick up. LOL

Re: Led

Well I just looked up the solaris and it's about twice as much as the galileo, but I can't find what the difference between them is. I have a trip to hawaii planned in about a month, so that's gonna eat up about 5gs, then I'm gonna try and save for the leds. I've also got a little guy on the way, so I may never get em. Maybe my wife would buy me lights for my birthday!

I believe the difference is in the LED's themselves. The Solaris uses a much more powerful LED compared to the Galileo.

Re: Led

Love my Solaris I4. Ive had it for about 2 months no big problems yet. I had one LED in a strip fail, but Profilux sent me a replacement within a few days.

Cheers

Re: Led

Wow. Thats what I want my tank to look like. I was going to go buy more live rock this weekend, but after seeing your tank, I think I maybe have too much. It looks so clean, and the lighting looks great. How much did you pay for those lights, $3000?

Re: Led

The I4 cost me $2800.00 plus the government's cut. Justified it by not having to have a chiller, and the grief my six would give me about having to much clutter around the tank, and not having to replace 2X250w MHs, and 4xT5s every 6 to 8 months.

Re: Led

Thanks for the kind complements.

In my case certain Acro's have anywhere from a quarter to third of an inch in growth during a month period.

Im still trying to get my waterflow the way I want it and thus most of the SPSs are not hard mounted yet and get moved around alot. It seems the ones that are fixed permanently show more growth and extensions.

Cheers
