Re: Water Jugs

You can look in outdoor stores or camping stores for water jugs. Home Depot sells 5 gallon buckets with lids.

Re: Water Jugs

Don't forget to check your local "independent" hardware and lumber stores. We sell 5g buckets, with lids for like $1.00 many times. We don't have any right now but it's common to have 20 - 30 at a time and they are ALL clean and new. Never had anything IN them.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Water Jugs

Al, if you get some in at that price could you ship them to me? The cheapest I can find them is around 5 bucks plus shipping, I am really not looking to spend 50+ dollars on buckets.

Re: Water Jugs

Well of couse. Our VP buys them at "shows" so we get them in several times a year. I'll ask him this morning if he has any on the way. Otherwise it wont be until after our February show before we have any more coming.

After I talk with him I'll give you a PM.

Re: Water Jugs

Try WallyWorld. We got 7 gallon jugs in the camping dept for pretty cheap. Not sure how much but they are blue containers.

Re: Water Jugs

The ones at walmart run about 5.00-7.00 for a 6 gallon. If you are talking about the ones like I have, greenish blue, flat style water carrier jugs with small mouth.

Re: Water Jugs

The one I got is squarish as well. It looks like a GAS jug but rated for "Drinking Water".

Jason I talked with my VP and he doesn't have any on order right now. He said if he comes across a "deal" on them he'll get an order coming. If something changes I'll let you know buddy

Re: Water Jugs

not sure how far you are moving but why not start with all new water? once you move the rock there will be some die off and new mixed water will help prevent overloading the surviving bacteria. plus you can set up the tank before moving the rock and everything, get the ph and temp all good. that way the rock will be in good water most of the move. otherwise the rock will sit in cold maybe not so good ph until you get it all setup. just a thought

Re: Water Jugs

I agree, trash the water and restart with new. The good bacteria is in the rock, not the water, so do your absolute best to keep the rock in water for the entire time.

Re: Water Jugs

Another idea would be a larger garbage can. I just finished moving a 90g tank (& a 44g) and I used a 32 gallon trash can which I got for around $20. I was able to fill it 3/4 full and still move it with another guy. (It was pretty heavy, but still moveable). I just pumped the water back into the tank when I got to the new house. No problems, and after the move you can use the bit bucket for water storage. (Or garbage)

regardless of what you use, good luck
