Aqualight fixtures

I'm going to upgrade to MH lights on my 75g. I have a Coralife Aqualight PC fixture now that I have had to replace the internal ballasts about once a year, I assume becuase of the heat build up. Has anyone had the same problem with the Aqualight Pro MH fixture, or does the 3in. fan they use eliminate this problem?

Very few of my customers ever had issues with the Corallife fixtures when I was running a store.
Just out of curiosity is yours mounted inside a canopy?

I also did have an issue with the Aqualight HQI fixtures, the ballasts are remote and have some brackets to mount them where ever you'd like. I will say the fan inside our display unit stopped working after about a year, but we didn't have any issues develop. The HQI bulbs were a PITA to change though.

Re: Aqualight fixtures

Mine isn't in a canopy. It's supported by the pivoting mounting arms they sell as an up-grade to the plastic mounting legs that I had originally, but they broke. The fan still works, but it is a poor design as far as air flow. With the fan on the top of one end, it really doesn't draw much air from the other end.

Re: Aqualight fixtures

I have the 48" Aqualight Pro MH fixture on my 90 gallon Tech tank. It has the 2x250w MH and the 2x96w Actinics. I have been running it for about a year now with no issues. IMO, it is a very good unit.

I meant to say didn't have issues... The middle fan stopped working, but nothing happened. Again, the only thing I didn't like was the way you have to remove the end and slide the glass and metal pieces out to change the bulb. ours was on the ceiling hanging kit, the metal actually seized up and was very hard to slide the brackets off as well, which made the bulbs that much harder to change.
so I guess I did have some issues with it. But the bulbs and ballasts I had no issues with

You may want to check around at some other HQI fixtures though just to see what else is in your price range. Current and AB makes some halide fixtures that are competitive in price to the Coralife units.
