Anyone using 250w XM 15Ks

After only 6 months one of my 250w 14K Hamiltons running on a magnetic ballast burned out. A bit disappointing to say the least. Anyway, I'm thinking of replacing 2 of my 4 MH now and the other 2 next July (after a year). I know that the XM 10K is a bright white bulb with a lot of Par. I was wondering about their 15K bulbs. Anyone using them? What do you have to say about them?

I like the 15k XM mogul base but my experiance with the HQI bulbs is that they have to have a long burn in time. The XM 15k HQI looks closer to a yellow 10k for some time. The 15K mogul base are nice. Right between a 10k and 20k. They provide growth spectrum and at the same time give good flourescence. I like XM. For the rpice they are good bulb.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Very true, and with low par comes poor growth,..

I use XM10kK's and love them,.. but I'm not a fan of a blue tank.

Re: Anyone using 250w XM 15Ks

I wish that the coral growth was nto very good. I maintain a 240gl for someone and I just pulled 30 branches of pulsing zenia and took them to Waterworld for credit and that wasn't even half of it and the GSP is beginning to cover the back wall and plumbing, the haily mushrooms are larger than my spread out hand, the kenya tree frag I got at an old clun meeting frag swap is now all over the tank and a green finger leather got so big it couldn't hold its weight and finally tore on one side but I was able to frag the crap out of it and now it is all over the tank. If this tank is getting this kind of growth from 15k I would hate to put 10ks in.
