Re: sump design...check it out!

Bueno I like the layout of it. It very closely resembles how I plan to plumb my new 90g tank, sump and refugium. Just thinking out loud here I would add another bubble trap after the fuge jus in case. It may or may NOT be needed but I like more rather than less.

Looks good and I am sure others will check it out and make suggestions.

Re: sump design...check it out!

IMHO, as long as your not pushing a lot of water thru the ref section & the drop into the return isn't too much It will be ok. Hard call, extra panels for a baffle take up precious space.

Re: sump design...check it out!

cracker (aka nut) is right. As long as there isn't a lot of drop any bubbles will stay suspended up at the top of the water column and the pump will be taking IN from the bottom. That should work our just fine.

IMO ,you can use silicone with acrylic . Consider roughing up the edges of the acrylic with fine sand paper.

Re: sump design...check it out!

The other reason people shy away from it is that acryllic and glass expand and contract at different rates and it is possible that you could crack the sump. Not sure if anyone ever had this happen but it is possible.

Im no sump pro but why would you put a ball valve on the right overflow? isnt a ball valve to prevent back flow? why would anything backflow on a overflow?

To adjust the amount of flow going into the refugium. With the ball valve you can direct the flow back into the main sump instead of it blowing throw your fuge.

Re: sump design...check it out!

Matt's exactly right. You don't want a LOT of flow going into your refugium. It's much more efficient with slow flow which allows for more "Dwell" time. This allows you to "Tweak" your system for optimum performance

I believe you're thinking of a check valve, not a ball valve.
