Question Needing a Switch of Equipment!! Help!!

Hey everyone!

I currently have a back pak protien skimmer on a 45 gallon bow tank....I have had it for about 3 years now and I think it is dying.

I am wanting to get a better skimmer and was looking into wet/dry filtration.

Can anybody tell me what the best set up for protein skimmer/wet dry filtration is for a 45 gallon bow tank that is reef tanked.

Please any suggestions as to what or which equipment is the best is much appreciated! I have been out of the loop regarding equipment.

Thanks!

If you still want a hang on skimmer, then the Aqua C Ramora is the way to go. I'm not sure you need to go in the wet/dry direction, if you have enough live rock your biological filtration needs should be taken care of. How much LR do you have? Wet/dry usually means bio balls and most folks don't want them in their system. Just install a sump under the tank and loop it back to the DT with a sock attached to catch the big stuff. You could also have a fuge incorporated in the sump which would be a good addition. HTH.

How big do these hang on skimmers get before they are no longer practical? Thanks

IMO if you go over 100g in your system then get an insump or external. I've got the aquamedic turboflotor hangon in my system (110 +-g) and it's barely adequate, it's rated for 250g.

If you have a sump I would reccomend one of these with a mag 7 to drive it. I jsut got one and they put out only the blackest crude you have ever seen. Great skimmer for the price.
