| Plate Coral | Hi everyone, I currently have the 4x65w pc fixture from my old 60gal providing light for my softies and LPS (and 1 sps birds nest frag) in my new 90gal. I’ve decided on halides for the “shimmer effect”, high PAR that a good setup offers, and beautiful coloration they bring out in corals with some of the bulbs above 10k. Also, I’d like to have the option of keeping clams, an anemone, and SPS in the future as well. From what I’ve gathered so far the only drawbacks to halides are the high power consumption and heat. I’m willing to deal with the energy bill and think I can deal with the heat by building a new canopy with incorporated fans and no back (vaulted ceiling so hanging pendants are a no go according to the wife). Especially since I have no experience with them, I wanted to run my halide plan by you all to get any input you may have that will help me make a good decision. I’d like to get two 250W single ended retrofit style fixtures with electronic ballasts. I am on a budget of sorts, basically the less I spend the happier my wife will be. So, I’d like your ideas on a quality but cost-effective set-up like the one I mentioned above. Am I on track? What else should I know? Thanks in advance everyone. Justin
