Solaris 400 watt I series

So I've read on some other sites that the 400 watts was almost too much and that some corals towards the top of some tanks were bleaching. I think they were saying that the White LED's were to bright. I was just wondering what you guys think about the I series. I almost have my mind made up to get one but I didn't want to have to adjust the thing alot. I just wanted to put it on and go.

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

Welcome to RS!
We have several members here with the Solaris and at least one with the I series. I've not heard about them being too strong but one of the awesome things about the leds is the fact that you can adjust them however you like. Once you find what you like, you can just leave it there without adjusting unless you add livestock that needs it.

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

I have had the Solaris I4 for about 6 weeks. I love it! Plain and simple. It is a possibility that the white LEDs could be too bright, however, the intensity can be adjusted with the push of a button, from 0% white LED to 100% white. Also the blue LEDs are adjustable in the same way and the blue/white adjustments are independent of each other. Take a look at this link for my review and pictures. I have had no bleaching. In fact my corals look better! I slowly increased the White LED intensity over a 6 week period.

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

Welcome!
I am curious about that claim. I bet the tank that had the 400 watts was shallow to begin with. With all new lighting there has to be an acclimation period. I hear nothing but good stuff about the solaris.

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

what i have read on many boards is that its the acclimation that is the issue. the LEDs are point focus down. this means all the intensity is aimed and funneled into the tank. when switching from another lighting sys that atleast 50% of the light is reflected and cast towards other areas of the tank (walls cieling of room as well) the intensity, even though lower wattage is a shock.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

The I series Day Whites are 30% Bright than the H Series this is for deeper tanks. Aclimation as Scott has stated is very important just light Aclimatining corals to a new HQI or MH bulb.

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

Thanks for the replies guys. I just have a hard time deciding between the Current USA 250 watt MH with T5's and the Solaris. I'm trying to decide if this is my final tank or if i'm going to upgrade in the future. If I upgrade theres no need for the solaris. Somethings telling me that this might be my last tank though.

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

If I had the opportunity for Solaris then that's what I would do. Initially it's a bit more expensive but over the life of the fixture you end up WAY ahead on money. It's in a league all it's own to be honest with you.

Keep us posted on what you do get.

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

If I had a choice at this point I would go with the Solaris. More long term bang for the buck.

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

I have the Current USA that you mentioned but after dealing with the heat, and after seeing Dentoids Solaris in person, I SO wish I would have gone with the Solaris instead. I went the "cheap" route but now I'm paying for it everytime I open my electric bill.

Lynn is correct. It is not a big deal to adjust.
