I can honestly say I don't think you'll regret that order. It's an outstanding light unit... no let's call it what it is.. a "Total Light Solution" for your Reef Tank.

Exclamation Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

I am looking at buying these lights, I am in the process of getting together my equiptment for my new 360 gallon tank (96x24x36) my only questions is will the do well in this tank, it is deeper than most (36") and I have not seen anyone explicitly mention that they are using them on such a deep tank. Are there any other good (and cheep) alternatives? (custom made perhaps). I am willing to spend a more on the outlay to make up for less heat and equiptment (chiller, replacement bulbs etc.). Any thought?

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

Hey xlayedoutx... How about an update. Did you get your Solaris yet? If so, what are your thoughts? I most likely will be going the same direction with my new tank, but I'd like to get as much input as I can first.

Being what they are in price.... where did you find the best deal?

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

I am in the midst of setting up a 90 gal reef. The lighting issue is killing me. Many keep mentioning the longevity of the Solaris LED systems as well as the energy efficiency in regards to cost savings. However, I am wondering what owners of this system are finding in terms of heat issues. A really big draw for me is the possibility that I will NOT need to get chiller...saving startup cost, future repair/replacement costs and energy long-term. I would LOVE for somebody to tell me they have a 90 gal tank set up in their upper 70s degree living room without the need for a chiller with the Solaris 48 inch system....assuming one is smart with minimizing heat from pumps, using a fan, etc. If I end up needing a chiller after shelling out 2200 bucks for these lights, then it will be a sad day indeed. As with most every other person struggling with this issue, I can't decide if I should just go with some MH's/PC combo (ie Current) instead. Please help!!! Thanks.

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

Hey Jocass, welcome to the Sanctuary. Well, I have a 90 gallon tank with the Soaris I4 and there is no heat transfer to the tank whatsoever. Since I set my Solaris up in October, I haven't had the opportunity to observe the tank temperture through a summer period. So I can't answer there, however, I have a Peltech Peltier water conditioner that suppose to keep my tank at a steady 77 year round. When I had my MH's the conditioner could not keep up with the heat transferred to the tank and my temperature would rise during the day even in winter. Now that I have the Solaris, my tank temperature is very stable and does not fluctuate from 77 degrees.

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

I have a 36" H Solaris on my tank and there is no heat transference. I'm working with Jack to move up to a 180 and the lighting will be a 72" solaris. I love this light and my corals love this light....it's a big bite in the wallet but well worth it for me and my utility bill

Re: Solaris 400 watt I series

We were discussing this just last nigh. I am trying to decide if it makes sense to spend our tax money on a Solaris. Does anybody know how much their electric bill was reduced after switching from MH to LED?
