Question Electrical MESS

I have a nano with a sump/refug, UV, Skimmer, Fan, Heater etc. in the stand. The problem is the Power Strip, Plugs, Timers, Cords etc. are in a blob on the floor next to the Chiller (the Chiller Can stay out). I want to hide this mess plus add a 5 gallon auto top off all hidden somehow in something that will not look out of place since it is in the living room. Any Ideas? I have a few but it never hurt's to hear what other people come up with. THANKS

Re: Electrical MESS

Well for starters you need to get the power strip up off of the ground with drip loops in all of the cords. If saltwater drips in it you have big problems.
I would probably put it under an end table or something. You want the chiller to be well vented so it is better kept as much in the open as possible.

Re: Electrical MESS

Can you put some sort of cabinet next to the stand to hide it all in? Something else you may consider, is slide the tank out from the wall, and build a wood or acrylic box on the back of the stand to house it. It will make it so you cannot push it flush against the wall, but it will provide the little "cord caddy" you would need!

Re: Electrical MESS

Be careful wih the strip on the floor. Getting zapped while trying to keep you cords from burning up is NOT fun. TRUST ME I KNOW

Re: Electrical MESS

I added a shelf under the stand for the electrical equipment, such as timers. The cords loops down, then loops back up to the shelf. If water runs down the cord, it drips off before it gets into the exposed electric sockets.

Re: Electrical MESS

i recommend getting a power strip from like a guitar or music store. they have buttons on the front and the plugs go in the back. Melev has them with some of his setups. mine works great. keeps the cords neat and out of the way. i think i paid $25 for mine. mount it underneath if you have room or other the other suggestion of getting or building a cabinet next to it would work well. gives you some working space and the all needed storage we all lack. i never have enough room because im always buying or upgrading something. i will try to post the link for the powerstrip.
