Re: New sump ???`s

I don't have plants in the FW so I don't know anything about them. I DO prefer the look of the 14k bulbs though. Not sure how they would look over FW plants though.

Re: New sump ???`s

Where did it leak at? Around the tube going to the sump?

Re: New sump ???`s

Yes, there. So I enlarged the hole and put some PVC in it. Then I put the vinal in the PVC ( snug fit ). Also at the bulb head in there.

Re: New sump ???`s

Something that I found that works fantastic for things like this is a PVC pressure fitting. That creates an incredibly tight seal. Darn things are a bit on the expensive side though.

Lowes, Home Depot, etc. all sell them.

Re: New sump ???`s

Silicone works too. A squeeze tube made by DAB for aquariums runs $3.50. Beat that. you won't.

Re: New sump ???`s

I got the sump in. I don't have any RO water on hand ( ), so it isn't going yet. I am amazed I could still fit everything in there, with the added 5g, and loss of the shelf. It was full before this, now with 1/5 the storage room, and nothing left out! I left the heater and a power head in the DT, but it still looks emptier. Now I need more LR ( I think it is expensive ( I only need 2.5 lb ) lol. The external overflow thing ( knock on wood ) I finally got leak free. The bulkhead still leaked a little, but I threw on a coat a silicone and hope for the best. I'm out of it, sick of waiting. To the 'screw it' point.

[ Think, rock is the single most expensive thing ( as far as the tank ) I have. Rock! ]

Re: New sump ???`s

Think I have the definition of bulkhead wrong~
By bulkhead I mean dividing wall.

Re: New sump ???`s

Ahhhh, that makes more sense! I was thinking "He sure doesn't want to leave a bulkhead leaking. That will make a big mess!".

I love your creativity in putting together your overflow. Amazing!

Re: New sump ???`s

So I'm getting it going, the pump is off and I'm removing the hang on overflow thing ( adjust water leval via overflow ). I hear what I thouht was the pump starting. Odd! I look, no, not the pump. My power strip is in the sump. fully submerged! What a show! Every thing goes off like the circuit breakers been tripped, like it should. I judge its safe to unplug and do so. Go down to the basement, none of the circuits are tripped. Odd!, again. I check all of them to see if one got stuck, nope. None are tripped or even labeled. So now I have the tanks on extension cords ( half the living room went out too ). All I have to do now is trip on the cord. I rent, so I'll take it from basic maintenance in the morning. If any one asks, I don't know how it happened.

Re: New sump ???`s

I bet that circuit is on a GFCI circuit. Check ALL of the sockets in the house, could even be back in the bathroom, and see if any of those are tripped. They trip LONG before a circuit breaker will pop. Also check for a GFCI circuit breaker. They have a white (mine are white) button on them.

I don't have any of those. That was the other thing I checked right away.

Get er done

So its all ready, except I can't get all the air out of the U tube. Also, the anti siphon hole thats an inch from the end. I have air line in it, it runs out to air but it dose nothing to stop the siphon. I tried barely sicking it in to ramming up the tube and inch in each way.
So how do I start it up? Yes, thats a ridiculous question. I build this system all DIY and ironically then can't turn it on.
