| Frequent lurker | Securing aquarium heaters Is there some secret to keeping heaters in place? I can never get the suction cups to hold, and the heater ends up floating around. I use the typical cylindrical heater, which has two suction cups. I have even tried superglue. Are there other styles of heaters that do not have this problem?

| Frequent lurker | Re: Securing aquarium heaters It is in the sump, but it still does not stay attached. I do not like it floating around, because I am concerned it will crack.

| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: Securing aquarium heaters It floats? I have several and none "float". I wouldn't want it to float either as it may become un-covered with water and overheat. I just can't see the floating aspect of it. What brand is it?

| Manta Ray | Re: Securing aquarium heaters i just place mine between a couple baffles on the bottom. the flow doesnt allow the heat to build up so no worries about over heating the glass and it cracking. if you dont like the idea of it sitting on the bottom, you could look into plastic hanger type thing. like what they use on tunze streamer pumps, you could just zip tie it to one of those.

| Reef Addict (hopeless) ![]() | Re: Securing aquarium heaters That's how I have mine prow. In my nano cube it just sits down inside chamber #3 and probably against the bottom of the tank. In my home tank it's inside my HOB fuge and just down inside chamber #1 and against against the acrylic and bottom. As long is it's submerged the water-flow will not allow it to over heat. Allen

Magnets are a mad thing for smaller tanks. With large tanks with 1,5cm glass strength however no longer usefully. There helps to stick only with silicone.

| Manta Ray | Re: Securing aquarium heaters if you go with silicone make sure you get aqurium silicone. it needs to be 100%pure silicone, not the algea resistant kind or anything. double check here to make sure its safe, if you are not sure.

| Frequent lurker | Re: Securing aquarium heaters The magnets sound like a good idea, as it is going in my sump. I will have to see if I can find them locally. If not, then I will probably go with silicone.
