Cpr Bakpak Skimmer

Ok so I recently purchased this skimmer from a member on here for a great proce and it arrived yesterday in great shape, excellent packaging. So anyway my questions is the skimmer is supposed to have a biological media in it so I need to buy some, I will post the link so you guys can see the media it requires, is this the best media to use, is it required at all? I have no experience with skimmers so I could use some help, suggestions or anything else you guys find important.

Re: Cpr Bakpak Skimmer

Hi Jason, the bio bale is the same as bio balls as a place for bacteria to grow, not really desirable for a reef, you could put some coarse foam instead but you will have to clean it every couple of days,I beleive the media is to help restrict flow and minimize bubbles, maybe charcoal in a mesh bag? steve

Re: Cpr Bakpak Skimmer

Ok so would I be better off buying this? Also is it ok to run the skimmer with nothing in it? I do have my canister running with bio media in it. (Didn't take that stuff out yet as suggested a few days ago)

he's referring to chaetomorpha macro algae, also known as brillo algae. It is a great exporter of excess nutrients.
