Question about spectrums...

I have my 29 bio cube, with stock lighting. I am only keep softies, shrooms, rics, zoas, things like that. I need to resolve this issue i am having within the next 2 weeks. I am going to upgrade to 108w from nanotuners(i think that the 144w is too much for my needs) Now, its stock, so i have the 10k and actinic. When I get the new system, I was gonna get the 50/50. Should I do the extra 50/50 or an extra actinic. Im not sure...i feel like the addition of another actinic would be too much blue....but how would the 50/50 look?

Re: Question about spectrums...

a 50/50 blulb is a 10K/420Atc combind I would opt for the straight 10K & a 460 Act for a better combination of the spectrum

Re: Question about spectrums...

Daniel my Nano-Cub came with a pair of 50/50 bulbs and they looked "OK" until I ordered new bulbs and did like Jack just suggested... instead of 2x 50/50 I have one daylight and one actinic. I like it a lot better. I opted to upgrade mine to add an addition fixture and went with another daylight bulb.

In addition to this I think you might want to consider going with the 144w or you may end up wishing you did a little later on. Speaking from exeprience here but I always seem to try and justify "doing just enough for now" and within a month I'm looking at my tank and going "Doohhh! I shouldn't went all out when I had the chance.. now I gotta take it all apart AGAIN!!" Think seriously about the 144w buddy.

Re: Question about spectrums...

al, The setup has the extra wire for another bulb. I wonder if the heat shield would have the extra holes for the addition of the new bulb. All I would have to do is get the endcap and bulb.....

If I did go with the 144w I guess I would go with 2 act and 2 10k or should I do something different.......I love currents PC the dual actinic and dual daylight, If i can find something like that in a straight pin that would be awesome!

Re: Question about spectrums...

I guess I would need the german style, and seeing that they only come in 65w and up...that about narrows it down.....All the rest are a square pin base....hey, does JBJ still make lights??

Re: Question about spectrums...

all bulbs are expensive...I already know that....I get choice of bulbs on this kit...actinics are extra...and so are the daylight, but 2 50/50's are included (or 1, depending on 108w or 144w.)

Looks like Jack has you on the right path. He's the PRO here. I'd follow his guidance to a "T" on this one Daniel.

Re: Question about spectrums...

I'm not overly pleased with my JBJ lights. I just feel like they are "lacking" for some reason. But like you, I have the German style and mine are only 24W
