How long have you had that light on that tank? The growth is incredible!

Re: Solaris 400 Watt LED in Lunar Phase

wow, thanks for sharing, I've seen the setup for a few years at the shows and they are amazing
if they get cheaper with time, that is where i am heading, as the MH suck up too much electricity and give too much heat

Re: Solaris 400 Watt LED in Lunar Phase

Beautiful night shots. I am most definitely looking into those for my next big tank (should be a more permanent one in a house, etc). They're a big upfront cost, but I would think they would easily pay for themselves (because of bulb life, electricity, etc)

Re: Solaris 400 Watt LED in Lunar Phase

I dont not see the price on this type of light droping much those of us that have been in the hobby for a long time have seen this with the MH they are still about the same price as when they were introduced in to the hobby. Cheaper imatations will be out there but you will get what you pay for.

You are very corret they do pay for themseves rather quickly too

Re: Solaris 400 Watt LED in Lunar Phase

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but i'm just curious, with such illumination during the night hours, do you still get the "shimmer" effect on the rocks and substrate as with having a couple of LED's or during the day as with mh?

Re: Solaris 400 Watt LED in Lunar Phase

Yes, but not to the extent of MHs. With LEDs you need to agitate the surface water. The more agitation, the more shimmer. I've been using them for over a year and I'm completely sold on them.
