Lightbulb VHO's

i think for my new 55 gallon i will construct a canopy. in the canopy i will put a VHO retrofit, here is the link:
Aquadirect :: Lighting :: VHO Fluorescent :: ARO VHO Retros :: ARO 48" 4 Lamp VHO Retro Kit
it has a total of 440 watts it says, it has 4 lamps, and a ballast, all i have to do is mount it in my canopy!
in the for lamps i can get to full spectrum VHO lamps and the other two i can get super actinics. that should be good for anemones and most corals right?

Re: VHO's

yes, but the bulbs are quite pricey to replace, VHO's are suppose to be good alternatives. if you check out my lighting reccomendations thread under equipment,in the thread option three is a metal ahlide pendant that i would consider, but i kind of like the VHO's

Re: VHO's

In my area VHO's are endangered species. I waited 3 weeks for the lfs to get and then gave up and ordered my actinis from hamilton electronics.
They are old school. Everyone has t8's and t5's.
Just an fyi if you are in it for the long haul

Re: VHO's

are t5's better? i heard thry are not intense enough for hard corals or anemones? i want to get some hard corals and an anemone and i heard halides or VHO's are good, are you sure t5's are intense enough aren't they too low of a wattage?

Re: VHO's

so since they are intense enough fro hard corals and anemones i will get T5's. i am convinced! thanks,AQTCJAK. doesn't current-usa make a good t5 fixture. what would you reccomend? my 55 gallon is 20" deep so by the time i get the live sand in the bottom the corals and anemones will be close enough to the light plus the anemone can move on top of the liverock to get even closer! i am looking at the nova t5 extremes.

Re: VHO's

The Nova Extreme is a great light setup. I would suggest the 48" 8x54W System w/ 4 Lunars the dimensions are 48x14x2.5 total wattage of 432 Watts

Re: VHO's

Simple but very effective sump I would suggest the Model 2

Aquarium Filtration: All-Glass Aquarium MegaFlow Sump Filter Wet/Dry Filter
Skimmer AquaC

AquaC - Protein Skimmers!

Re: VHO's

You should be able to find them for $250.00 or less depending on the pump you want with it
