Re: VHO's

so a 4x65 watt pc fixture would be great right? also i had a good diy idea, what if i got a MH retro and to 1x65 pc retros and combined all that together in the canopy it would be a little more but would be better? or should i get the more energy-effecient pc's that are probaly just as intense?
so a 4x65 watt pc fixture would be great right? It would be adequate, it all depends on what you want to keep.also i had a good diy idea, what if i got a MH retro and to 1x65 pc (2x65 would be better, 4x65 better still with the 150w halides. retros and combined all that together in the canopy it would be a little more but would be better? or should i get the more energy-effecient pc's that are probaly just as intense? They are not as intense, when the halides come on and go off it will be A VERY NOTICABLE DIFFERENCE.
DIY retro is the most cost efficient way to go, Marine depot and Drs foster and smith have some good kits or you can mix and match to truly DIY.

Re: VHO's

Plus Jubbers, with metal halide you will get a point specific light which will give you the little ripples of light that are so beautiful on the ocean floor. Flourescents don't produce that because the light is so spread out. Your corals will also like it because those ripples intensify the light and reflect it off the bottom to illuminate the bottoms of the corals, something that isn't as effective with flourescents alone.

Aquadirect :: Lighting :: Metal Halide :: Metal Halide Pendants :: Horizontal Pendants :: Horizontal Pendant
would two of these be enough for a 55G. do these pendants include a ballast?

Re: VHO's

They would be adequate with enough of them. Go for the MH retro if you can afford it Jubbers, you will not be disappointed, I promise.

Yes they would and no they don't. Two icecap 150 ballasts and two pfo pendants with two bulbs will run about ~$600-650. Do them one at a time, there's nothing wrong with that. Or just do one on one side of the tank and keep your light lovers there, and on the other side use the PCs, it's a cool look!

Re: VHO's

Current USA 2-lamp 65-Watt ballast with clip (Saltwater Aquarium Supplies > Lighting > Accessories > Ballasts > Power Compact > With Endcaps )
Current USA 65W 10000K White PowerCompact Bulb - Square Pin (Saltwater Aquarium Supplies > Lighting > Bulbs > Power Compact > Square Pin > 65 Watts > Daylight/ White )
Current USA 65W Actinic 03 PowerCompact Bulb - Square Pin (Saltwater Aquarium Supplies > Lighting > Bulbs > Power Compact > Square Pin > 65 Watts > Actinic/ Blue )
okay, two ballasts, and two of each bulb will be $279 and shipping will be free. That's a great start. Add some metal halides later, maybe Santa will be good to you this year, LOL.
