refugium&sump

i'm looking to get a 125 with two overflows i am thinking about going with an idea that i got from my LFS on one of there 180gal tanks they had one overflow go directly into the sump, and the other overflow went into a refugium then the refugium ran into the sump, i liked this idea but then again at the time the tank didn't look so well, is this a good idea or should i just go with a refugium, since they moved the 180 it looks amazing it is run on a refugium only in fact go to you tube right now type in (premier fish 180 reef) and watch the vid. and keep in mind that the 180 in the vid. IS LIT BY ONLY T5's

Re: refugium&sump

I have a 125 all glass with corner overflows. i have had this tank since 1998
and have found over the years that simpler, for me, is better. My overflows dump into a sump which has a tray of filter floss ( easy to change ) i have my skimmer in the sump also, which outlets to the small area in my sump with my mag 1800 return pump. In between the 2 compartments is a sponge
4" x 4" x 16" ( also easy to clean ) my weekly maintanence is change out the filterfloss, clean the sump cup, clean the long sponge. Total time 30 min TOPS!

Go with just the refugium, get a 50 to 75 gallon refugium and put a deep sand bed with around 12 mangrove trees and some macro algae in it and It will keep nitrates in the area of 0-0.025 ppm!
