nova extreme t5 lights

48" nova extreme lights

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I want to buy this product and turn my saltwater fish with live rock tank into a reef tank. My tank has been running over 2 years with pretty good water parameters.

I have a standard 55 gallon tank that is 48" long and 13" wide. These lights have a listed width of 14". Can they still fit on my tank ? Not sure if the 14' refers to the width of the unit at it's widest point or how far apart the legs that fit on the tank are ?

Also I run these directly on top of the tank I assume with no clear plastics between them and the surface of the water ?

Please help a newcomer to reef tanks.

Re: nova extreme t5 lights

Total Control
Two independent ciruits with six foot grounded power cords independently control 10,000K Daylight lamps and 460nm Actinic Blue lamps. Moon White Lunar Lights operate on their own transformer, providing complete control of timing periods.
  • Bulbs: 2x54W Daylight 10000K + 2x54W Actinic 460nm
  • Lunar Lights: 4 x Moon White
  • Total Watts: 216W
  • Total Amps: 1.86A
  • Independent Control: Yes
  • Cooling Fans: Yes
  • Dimensions (L x W x H): 48" x 7.25" x 2.5"
This will fit no problem. I like it a lot. You won't get the MH shimmer in the tank from T5's but the growth i am seeing on corals in other threads is incredible. I use 4 t5's in conjunction with MH's on my system now with great results.
Good luck! i look forward to some pictures.

Welcome to RS! I don't use the Nova brand, but I do use T5s and I'm happy so far!

Re: nova extreme t5 lights

I have 2 smaller Nova Extremes and love them so far. It hasn't been that long though, so short term results only.

Re: nova extreme t5 lights

I am using the Nova Extreme on my 55 gallon. My BTAs seem to love them. I have heard that the brands with individual reflectors are even better, but they do add a bit to the cost. That is what I am going with on my 75 gallon. I believe SunTek is the brand.

Re: nova extreme t5 lights

My Acros and Montis love the Nova Extremes over my 75.
But the same fixture used to be on my 55.

Re: nova extreme t5 lights

I run Nova t-5 on my 90 and Im happy with them, just remeber If you have an canopy you are going to restrict the fixture fan output Inless you have a cut out In the canopy or an additional fan blowing on the fixture.
