I learned this lesson early on I got in over my head with a big tank because I got the tank cheap and realized I couldn't even afford to fill it up with live rock , let alone the skimmer lighting etc.It would probably be a good $50,000-$100,000 investment if you wanted to make this a reef tank. I suspect the overflows on that tank aren't really large enough for a reef system though, however that is easy to change on an acrylic tank.

| Watch this Ma! | Re: I gotta get me one of these!!! He had it listed on Craigslist for a while, obviously he didn't have any takers. I agree MPS, just getting it setup would be prohibitive. We figured out that it would cost $850 JUST for enough salt to mix to fill it. Add in a 1,000 gallon sump/refugium, and you're up to $1,300 JUST to fill it. Add in 3,000 lbs of live rock at what, $3.50 a lb? (assuming you can make a deal with someone for that much rock). 1,000 lbs of sand, although you could probably use the inexpensive stuff. still a lot of money though. What do you think? $15,000 for the skimmers you would need? What about lighting? Another $15,000? Nah, that's too big. I personally wouldn't go above a 1,500 gallon tank. ![]() (kidding!!!)

| Tiger Shark | Re: I gotta get me one of these!!! Having setup very large tanks like this you dont mix salt.. You buy ocean water. Pumps are not that expensive Hammer heads work great as far as skimmers R2K Skimmers are relitivly in expensive.
