| Tunicate | Commercial floodlights for aquaria?? Hey guys, New to the hobby an planning my first reef aquarium In terms of lighting, I'm planning on using some floodlights which i can get for cheap. Here is a link to the type of lighting i can get hold of (not the exact type but similar): 250w Metal Halide Laser 5 Floodlight No Lamp Providing i use the appropriate bulb for my set up I think i'd be able to save some $$$. It would be great to hear from anyone using this type of set up and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Cheers |

| Acropora | Re: Commercial floodlights for aquaria?? They will work presuming you use the right bulb. I use a similiar setup on my 75g frag tank, but with a remote ballast. The ballasts are magnetic though, and run hot, and use a lot of electricity. other than that, they work fine.. Jason

| Tunicate | Re: Commercial floodlights for aquaria?? Hey cheers for the info! Remote ballast... if i understand correctly this would involve removing the ballast and just have the bulb+fixture in the canopy. And re-wiring the ballast to somewhere where heat production isn't an issue???? Cheers |
