Re: Help again...

chiller and heater are both back on.

I calibrated the chiller. It's sensor was reading 81 and the tank temp was actually 77. This was my tanks temp when I got home....77... 1/2 of my red shrooms are gone. The polyps of my Pipe Organ are all retracted. It looks ok, though.

I turned the heater to its lowest setting and left it that way for an hour.
I slowly moved the controller up until the light came on. Tank is 77 and its heating light came on at 71.

I cant keep my tank at 77 ! I cant keep the heater on with out the chiller....the tank runs at 83....I cant keep the chiller on with out the heater...the tank runs at 77. If I have both on (I hope the calibration does the trick) I have intense temp swings in short periods of time.

I have to calibrate the heater. I'm gonna get a bucket of water and pull up the yellow button. what ever the tanks temp is I'm gonna turn the dial to that temp and then push the button back down. This is how you calibrate a ebo-jager (...lol...iwaki..boomerd.. )

I dunno....I've kept a tank at 80deg for 4 yrs now. My coral and fish are used to this temp...not to mention ...me ! ...lol....

So far I've lost my Eagle Eyes...Bulls Eyes...Gorilla nipples...pink paly's, and my red shrooms.

Thank goodness I did NOT bring my sponge, 3 Feathers and Coco into this tank. I wanted to wait to make sure I had a good level of organics and some maturity to provide health. They are very sensitive to changes. My temp swings would have killed them for sure!

Im running a Little Giant 3-MDQX-SC....I think this pushes between 1000-800gph... not sure, but I think. The line is soft plumbed and there is about 2' verticle to the actual return in the main display.

The whole point of this help thread is that I can not keep a consistant temp.

My coral didn't die because the temp was at 77. everything is being affected because Im at 77 one hour and 83.5 the next and don't forget everything in between.

I am pretty bumbed that I'm having a hard time getting a simple thing like temp in line. I mean really...what are the odds that 2 heaters and a chiller are malfunctuning ??? Or that all 3 were 6 degrees off in calabration???

thanks for the help everyone.

Re: Help again...

I'm baffled. Have you tried calling the makers of the chiller and heater? The manufacturors should have better incite as to the problem because they deal with issues all the time. Also you might try googling your models for reviews and see what happened to others with these models. Just a thought. More hugs

Re: Help again...

OK, Ebo-Jager makes a LOT more sense than Iwaki...thanks for clearing THAT up.

There is a fine balancing act with keeping a chiller and heater operating together without them competing all the time. That's where a good quality controller comes in handy, either the Ranco type like I linked to before, or one of the more comprehensive controllers, like the Neptune Aquacontrollers or the Aquadyne Octopus, both of which can be used not only for thermal control, can also monitor and control a bunch of other things as well;

Monitor pH, ORP, Temperature, Conductivity and Dissolved Oxygen

Control pH, ORP, Temperature, Conductivity and Dissolved Oxygen

Timers

Sunrise and Sunset Simulation

Moon Cycle Simulation

WaveMaker

Alarms

And much, much more. Unfortunately, the better ones are QUITE expensive by the time you buy all the associated hardware, but the peace of mind is usually worth quite a bit, as well as the ease of tank operation.

Re: Help again...

I am so sorry you are still having such troubles. I wish I could help and it seems like I should be able to since I have the same chiller. Ours worked perfectly from the time we hooked it up. We did have to move some furniture due to the heat output but it keeps the tank within a 3 degree range all the time. The only real difference is that I do not run a heater at all since the ambient temp in the room stays pretty constant due to AC and heat and my dislike of cold for myself.

Thumbs up Re: Help again...

Update

I appreciate all the help Bouncing out ideas and thoughts is what this site is so terrific at. I sincerely appreciate all the input.

Before leaving town I calibrated both Chiller and Heater, they were both off considerably. (Skips suggestion from my LFS...who was just as baffled as we were)
SHeesh!....leave it to me...really, I must be the poster child for Newtons Law !

Since then, flux has been normal.

But boy was I sweating it ! A week out of town.....I had an ache in the pit of my stomach the whole time. I was jazzed when I ran in the house after quick hugs to my girls and saw 80.4 on the chiller and the 4 cheapy thermometers.

I ordered the Neptune Aquacontroller III and am excited for its arrival.

Thank you my fishy friends

Re: Help again...

Congrats! You'll love the AC III but the programming can be a bit annoying at first.

Post any programming questions here **Neptune AquaController**
