| Manta Ray | Chiller for a 80 gallon reef tank I have been looking a the Pacific Coast CL-280 1/10th HP Chiller. I was wondering if anyone has one of these. My tabk is not extremely hot, but I want to be safe rather than sorry. Now it is constant at 80 to 81. I want it to be at about 75 to 76. Will this chiller be powerful enough. I have two 250 watt HQIs, and six 54 HO t5s. Oh yeah our house stays around 70 year round, maybe 75 in mid summer but no hotter than this. Thanks for the help.

| Scopas Tang ![]() | Re: Chiller for a 80 gallon reef tank I have a 90 gallon Oceanic Tech tank with similar lighting (2 x 250 MH and 2 x 96 Actinics). I was having problems keeping the temperature under control, but luckily, it was recommended to me to purchase the JBJ Artica 1/4 HP chiller. It was the best purchase I have made so far. The chiller works great, and it is extremely quiet. The fans on the MH are louder than my chiller. I could have gone with the 1/5 HP chiller, but this one will work less to keep my tank under control. I set the temperature to 78 degrees, and for the past two months, my tank has stayed between 77 - 79 degrees. They also give you a two year warrantly. I would highly recommend this chiller. Good luck. |

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Chiller for a 80 gallon reef tank I have a 1/4 hp Pacific Coast chiller that works great on my system. It keeps my 125g reef, 24g seahorse tank, 29g fuge, and 29g sump at 77 even here in Florida. Very quiet chiller but you will probably need to vent it outside since they put out a lot of heat. We are working on that now that summer is here and temps are in the high 80s to low 90s outside. You also want to be sure to have a lot of air circulating around the chiller or it will have to work more to keep the water cool. We originally had ours behind a couch but rearranged recently to have it in the open and it made a world of difference.

| Fire Coral | Re: Chiller for a 80 gallon reef tank I used a 1/10th PCI chiller on my 65 and it worked well. I upgraded to a 90 with 2x250MH and 2-VHO supplements and moved the chiller over to use it on it. It kicks on and off during the day and runs for not very long BUT I do have canopy fans and a 6" sump fan running to help cooling. It keeps temp at 78-79 all the time with the chiller with a house at 77-78 I`m planning on going with a 1/4 PCI chiller in the future to use on this one and then a 180. The 1/10th will go on a 29 with 1x250 and VHO supplements. It also runs fans but tips the 81 mark consistently. You want a 5 degree drop in temp so I would go with a bigger unit like the 1/6 or 1/4 PCI. The 1/10th could work but it will be running much much more to do it
