Question Re: **Neptune AquaController**

Ok, I have the serial cable and the adapter that I need, but aquanotes is saying it can't talk to the controller? I'm sure it is something associated with how this computer recognizes the port, but this is a new computer (running vista) and I don't know where to go or how to fix this. Took me all day to get it to talk with the internet again after I updated my virus software.

Anyone got any ideas?

Re: **Neptune AquaController**

I have located where the port is located on the computer (COM6), and I have the owners manual for the controller that lays out the 8 pins, but don't see any option where I can define which pin communicates what.

Re: **Neptune AquaController**

Well, I was able to track it down through their troubleshooting guide. Changed my computer to COM1 and checked all the settings between the two and we are rolling (I think).

Re: **Neptune AquaController**

The only thing I could get it to do is tell me what time the controller said. Hum, I guess I need to figure it out better. I went ahead and just ordered the full program and will probably wait until I get it.

Re: **Neptune AquaController**

Got the full program. Hum. I still feel stupid!

I have successfully downloaded the data log (I think, anyway that is what it told me). But can't get it graph or provide me a report.

Under reports, when I click on AquaNotes log, I get a message that it cannot find C:\ProgramFiles\AquaNotes\etc\logfile.logfile. And it asks if I want to creat a new one. When I click yes it opens up an empty notepad file. I have also tried repair database, and that takes me to these files and there is a logfile in the "etc" folder. But when I click on it nothing happens...

When I tell it to graph, all I get is a few entries that I manually entered.

Re: **Neptune AquaController**

Curt from Neptune has been kind enough to answer several e-mails from me today. The is the answer about where the datalog went. I had done all of this, but still didn't get anything. However, in the meantime, I had closed the program and when I went back in everything worked like a charm.

Quote:
It is put into the conditions tab of the tank database window. Check the time & date on the controller, and make sure that you have the AquaController’s serial number in the serial # field on the tank database window.

Re: **Neptune AquaController**

He's GREAT isn't he?

I have noticed a couple of "bugs" since I upgraded. Every once in a while I get some stranger "characters" in the program when I try to upload the program BACK to the controller. Also every once in a while I get some CRAZY information on the GRAPH! I just close AquaNotes down and re-open and it's all good. One time I had a TEMP reading on the chart of 1000 degrees. I hoped that was an error but closing and re-opening took care of it.

Good luck and keep us posted

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: **Neptune AquaController**

It seems to be doing good for me now. I'm running it on Vista and it seems to run fine. When I first installed it and then opened the program Windows shut down my computer, but that hasn't happened again since.

I've dropped Vista at home and at work. We have reformatted so MANY machines and went back to XP Pro. I think I'd go MAC before going back to VISTA the way it is now. It sucks (from a IT stand point)

Yeah many "strange" things happen with Vista. It doesn't "play well with others" but it sounds like it's working for you now. Glad to hear that

Re: **Neptune AquaController**

Well, on to the next problem of the day.

My pH readings on my controller are quite different than on the program. Should they be?

7.88 versus 8.07

In the configuration tab, the pH is Enabled, the offset is -0.51, and the slope is 0.904. I have not changed these settings. Should I? Or is this what the pH calibration set it at.

Re: **Neptune AquaController**

Do not touch those settings. Those are from the calibration procedure.

Are you still having the PH reading issues?

MAC's are an amazing IT tool. Mine Allows me to Trouble shoot pcs without worry of a virus being transfered over and wrecking havok.

Speaking of MAC, is aquanotes supported, or will i have to run in a Windows setting, via virtual machine? Any Idea?
