Koralia 2 and 3 RECALL

For those of you with the Koralia 2 and 3 .... according to Marine Depot they are on recall from the manufacturer. They didnt seem to know why but you may want to check into it

Interesting... I just checked marinedepot and they do not list the #2 or #3 for sale. Foster & Smith shows 2, 3, and 4 on backorder.

You've got me nervous... I hope it is not an electrical shorting problem or something. I dont want to stick my hand in a "hot" tank.

Info is from manager at Marine Depot thats why they are not listed and also why they are backordered

I just spoke to Hydor and there is definately a non-specific recall on the 2 and 3. To replace the units I need to ship them back to their warehouse in CA, where they are going to replace the units with #4's since they are out of the #3's until the end of the month.

Not sure what I am going to do about the flow in the tank while they are out, but at least I am getting an upgrade

I wonder why there is so much secrecy surrounding this recall?
the only post I was able to dig up was one on the MD sponsor forum of RC, in which MD says it returned its stock of pumps to hydor and will be getting new stock by the end of the month.... why the recall? these pumps have been used in europe for over a year now.

I think that the secracy is because they don't know what the problem is. When I talked to Marine Depot he said that they were only recalling the ones from distributors and that it wasn't a public recall, and that we were just in the loop finding out about it. I have a feeling that they just want to check them out to see if there is an actual problem before recalling the entire purchased supply. When I called them they said that they would upgrade me for free as well for my #3's and that I could wait on the #2's if I wanted to. They were very helpful.

The reason for recall is that they have found a possibility of improperly sealed motor casings, which may allow stray voltages to leak into the tank.

Hydor wants customers with the units in question to contact them directly: 866-493-6787.

I got my two replacement #4's for the #3's that I sent in about a week ago yesterday. They were upgraded with no ?'s asked just as they promised
