| Reef Lobster | RO/Di units I have been looking at RO/DI units on E-bay, and was wondering what I need? I have a small tank, so the GPD rating does not need to be high, but how many stages would I want it to have? and what are the important things to keep in mind when buying one? Jason |

| Sea Pen | Re: RO/Di units 3 stage is basic, 4 is good plus the DI stage if you want DI stage adds cost. Dont get super cheap 35g a day rating is OK for a small tank. You'll start making water more than 1 day from youre WC day. Get one with a pressure guage. TDS meters are about $35.00 You'll know its getting close to changing the filter time when the sediment filter stage gets brown. Thats if you get one with clear stages which is best. The DI stage filter will also turn color. 1yr standard change out of filters less if you have really bad water. Most/some local water filtration / water supply stores will test water for free mine does. New filters cost me a little over $100 for 4 stages |

| Reef Lobster | Re: RO/Di units ok, after some research, this is the unit I am considering. (mainly due to price), but I wanted to get some opinions first. The filterguys stuff is out of my price range this week, and I hate to spend another $20.00 on water this week from the LFS. Here is the link to the unit: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Reef-6st-100...QQcmdZViewItem If no one sees anything wrong with it, I will order it this afternoon.. Jason |

| Acropora ![]() | Re: RO/Di units I would keep in mind that some units are cheaper because of the membrane used in the RO filter. Those membranes are usually not as high in rejection rate and do not last as long.

| Reef Lobster | Re: RO/Di units ok, bought another 15 gal of pre-mix today... I guess I will wait it out. I think I have spent about $900.00 on the tank in the last two weeks anyways.. If I spend much more, the wife's gonna kill me! lol.. No, but seriously.. I have impulse bought most of my equipment in the past, and paid more in the long run.. Not this time.. Thanks guys! Jason |

| Reef Lobster | Re: RO/Di units ok, I bought a unit, and it arrived today. I got everything installed. The only hitch was the piercing valve that came with it, pierced all the way through my copper line inder the kitchen sink. Quick trip to the hardware store, and everything is fixed. This is the unit I bought : http://cgi.ebay.com/AQUA-SAFE-100GPD...QQcmdZViewItem It appears to be of high quality, and other than the piercing valve piercing too far, life is good. I am still waiting on the sink faucet, however,.. It was on back ordewr and will be at my door on the 8th. I went ahead and bought their version of a "combo unit", to use for drinking water, as well as the tank. I finished installing it about 20 minutes ago, I emptied the tank once already, and will empty it two more times before I use the water for drinking, or the tank. My city water pressure runs at about 65psi, so I should have no issues there. Here is a pic of the install : ![]() When I was at the hardware store today, I looked at the units they sell, and it appears I got a real good deal compared to their prices. I also looked and they have the replacement filters and membranes there, so availability should be of no concern. Right now, I would rate this product a 9 out of 10, due to the piercing valve problem. I feel it was money well spent. Jason |
