| Midas Blenny | My uv sterilizer with powerhead. Hey all i was just cleaning my uv sterilizer and i noticed that a flow rate for it is 100-200 gph . I looked at my powerhead and saw that it was 270 gph. I think that the flow is too much for the uv light to get anything so i had this other powerhead at 84 gph. Do you think that using this smaller gph would do any thing to the sterilizer??? ----Thanks! |

| Reef Shark ![]() | Re: My uv sterilizer with powerhead. Matching the flow rate to the sterilizer's "zap rate" or "kill rate" is how you get the most efficient use from one. Using more flow that it's rated for won't give enough radiation to actually kill the organisms that pass through it, and too small of a flow, is just inefficient. It won't HURT the sterilizer, but is kind of like using a shotgun to kill a mosquito...it gets the job done, but not very efficiently. ![]()

| Reef Shark ![]() | Re: My uv sterilizer with powerhead. Well, I HAVE been to a few places where a 12 gauge MIGHT be necessary to kill the dammed things, but for MOST of us, it's just a bit of overkill... Alabama...isn't that where a couple can get a deevorce, and still be brother and sister? ![]()
