Question Lighting Question

hey guys, im oprety set on these lights, but my question is this: at the bottom of the page i can add different bulbs to the order, should i go with one at the bottom for a little extra or just leave the ones that come in it?
at the bottom ar 10K XM's or 14K Hamiltons, i have heard a lot more about these bulbs than the Oceanbulb 10K that comes with it

Re: Lighting Question

Since the unit comes with a bulb, and the other stuff shown on the page is not an upgrade, but an additional bulb, take the unit as is, try it and see how you like it. You can always go back and get the other bulbs, sometimes even with free shipping.

This is an AquaMedic product. Before you buy, make sure it includes electronic ballasts for the MHs. I own an older version of a similar product by AquaMedic. I'm my older version they used ballasts made for the German market, where the input power is 220V. Then they front ended this ballasts with an additional ballast to step up the power from 110V to 220v. This was extremely ineffective. I replaced all those ballasts with electronic ballasts, and got about a 60% reduction in the amount of power consumed.

Magnetic ballasts are fine to use and are very common but run much hotter and less efficient than electronic ballasts.

Quote:
Electronic ballasts offer a host of benefits over their magnetic counterparts, including higher efficiency, better dimming capabilities, better light quality, and shorter warm-up times

Snelly I have seen this hood at my LFS and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it as well as other products from Aqua Medic. If you can get the EB for the hood that would probably better but the Magnetic Ballasts have been around for a long time are proven and reliable.
