New AquaC EV-180 not skimming after 5 days

I’m running a new AquaC EV-180 in my sump and the bubbles won’t climb the tower. I know the manual notes a 48-72 hour break in process but I’m starting to get a little anxious that I’ve screwed something up. I guess I’ll just lay down some facts and you can let me know where I’ve gone wrong. Previously I was running a Berlin Classic and it was pulling out about ¼ cup a week.

- 75gallon tank that may resemble a reef ~100gallon total system
- 3 chamber sump
- Mag 7 on the Skimmer
- Elevated Skimmer to just above the gate valve
- Adjusted valve so the water level is equal to the top of the box
- Air Valve wide open
- Unblocked drain in cup

What else do I need to consider? Should I just sit tight for a few more days?

You might want to try to tighten the air valve a little bit... it worked for me on my ASM.

As Matt mentioned, the airtube may be allowing TOO much air in which would create very large bubbles (that pop easily). You want small bubbles so try adjusting the venturi valve.

ok. i got the air bubbles a little smaller but it still isn't skimming. Bubbles aren't even starting to rise up the tower. Is there anything else i can check?

I am not familiar with these skimmers. Can you adjust the back pressure on them?

I found a picture, bring the water level above the bottom of the cup by adjusting the gate valve.

the gate valve controls the back pressure and the water level. I have it closed just enough to bring the water level to the top of the box(bottom of the tower)...as instructed in the manual.

Here are some pics. Note that the water exits the gate valve and has about 2.5" of space before the water hits the side of the sump.

Looks like too much water height on the skimmer body, what depth is it and what is recommended in the manuel

To me it looks like it needs to be at the bottom of the protein skimmers cup.

That is right by the instructions, foam looks too wet, take the injector apart and make sure nothing is trapped in it, judging by the green line in the riser you have enough stuff to skim. Steve
