Re: Lime water Top off

I have only had the small problem when I dripped of over doing it, but I only had a gallon container, now I use a kalk reactor and never have any problems. For me kalk is the way to go before you spend alot in 2 part or a calcium reactor

Unfortunately for me kalk isn't enough so I have to also use a 2 part. I'm just gunna have to break down and eventually get the calcium reactor

It's definitely worth the investment... your reef will love you for it!

Re: Lime water Top off

If I may. I got some frags form a gentleman who uses this in his 75g sps crowded to the max reef. I guess he only goes thru a gallon of each part every 3 months or so and puts it in with dosing pumps along with a kalk mixer/top-off system. I have never seen such a stunning display of beauty as his tank. In person that is....

That's my question. Is there a difference? I gotta pay enough for salt I wouln'dt mind pinching a penny if it has the same effect!!??
Mrs. Wages Pickling lime is the same stuff.....calcium hydroxide with no additives or preservatives.
I"ve been using it for some time and it keeps my calcium, alkalinity and ph in check.

Re: Lime water Top off

Well I have used all and now I have the cal reactor / kalk reactor on auto top off and it works the best, and is very low matince. But how much is your calcium demand now?

I have a pretty high demand.. Few clams, anchor coral, several acros, torch and frogspawn... a few plates, bubble coral, a few brains....

It sure can ! Not only can it help reduce po4 but it'll also help to promote corraline algae.

Re: Lime water Top off

Here's something interesting... if you take a look at the exquisite "tanks of the month" on Reef keeping Magazine, you will notice that 90% of the tanks featured run a calcium reactor/kalkwasser reactor combo.... hint...hint...

Re: Lime water Top off

well the turn off of the calcium reactor is the high start up cost. And the problem of a kalk drip is you can only add as much as you evaporate, you can speed it up by adding a fan to promote evaporation, but that might be a problem for some. You may want to make a DIY 2 part solution.

You are right... It's not really practical on all setups.

Smaller setups can do fine on 2 part supplements, but anyone with a large reef setup will find that the initial setup costs for equipment are outweighed by the benefits of time and labor saved, plus the fact that long term use of 2 part supplements on large systems will eventually cost you more than purchasing the calcium/kalwasser reactors in the long run.
