biowheel question

hey guys, i have a marineland penguin 100 on my office tank. it does fine for the small 8 gallon tank.
My quesation is that i always see the biowheel itself can add to the nitrates.
Should i leave the filter media in there, i have purigen in the compartment too and take the wheel off?

Re: biowheel question

I would take the wheel off. Rely on your live rock and substrate to provide biological filtration.
