Re: Lighting

IceCap's are perhaps the BEST ballasts in the biz...plus, their customer support is also among the best you'll find...

Re: Lighting

if you get a 430 ballast, it will run 3X 110 watt 46.5"/48" bulbs, and a 660 will run 4 of them.

Re: Lighting

Gives you the option of upgrading by 50% if you decide to add any corals. IMO, 2X110 is ok for some low-light stuff like mushrooms and xenia, but not nearly enough for much more.

Re: Lighting

Right now I have 2x95W and 2x65W PC's. I'm adding 2x110 VHO's. And in a couple of months, getting rid of the PC's and adding 2x250W MH's.

Re: Lighting

Dont Forget To Acclimate Those New Lights To The Tank, You Should Mount Them Higher Than Needed By A Few Inches To Start And Lower Them Slowly Over A Few Weeks To The Desired Final Height.

Re: Lighting

You can also use a few layers of nylon window screen to acclimate the tank to new lights. Just remove a layer every couple of days till the tank is to full light. When you're done, roll it up and store it somewhere clean till the next time. (and there's ALWAYS a next time...)
