Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: Anyone need anything made out of pyrex?

I'll have to see what Matt gets. I'm thinking of hitching posts for my seahorses. The only problem would be if they break in the tank.
One of those droppers would be cool for target feeding. Or even a feeding station for the seahorses. I think I am getting carried away now.

Re: Anyone need anything made out of pyrex?

Lynn, the one I'll be getting isn't going in tank. I am using it to display some lamp work glass seahorses I have. Although it would probably be nice for a hospital/Qt tank as it could be sterilized in the dishwasher after treatment.

Pyrex is tough enough that I highly doubt it would break in the tank. If you manage to break it in tank I think that it would be the least of your worries.

Re: Anyone need anything made out of pyrex?

I knew you were using it for glass but that got me thinking about hitching posts for live ponies and/or a feeding station. I think a tree like branching piect would give them a cool place to hitch. The qt tank would be even better than the display. I'll have to get Frank to draw up what I have in mind and see where we can go from there. I would want to stay with the clear to avoid any potential issues. Darn, the more I think about it the more ideas I have. I'll have to narrow down what I really want and go from there.

A branching hitch with a built in feeding dish would be awesome.

Re: Anyone need anything made out of pyrex?

Kind of what I was thinking. I'll have to look at feeding dish designs first and see what I can create on paper and go from there.

Re: Anyone need anything made out of pyrex?

Ok I am back at the computer. If you came up with even a rough sketch let me know. I am going to make something anyway that I had in my head over the weekend.
Al I came home a day later then I was supposed to so I haven't had a chance to make the ball yet. I have several design ideas in my head. I am gonna make a mini mini ball using the spun glass technique which should get me an absoulte ton of surface area and a good spot for crusteceans to hide out. I also am gonna make a dome one, solid on top with 5 cave like openings for my star to sit in. Thinking about asking one of my crabber buddies to tie one to a crab trap and see how fast it colonizes in the gulf. The downside to the glass is its not a shade spot tell the coraline or other algae takes over the glass the upside its not a white bland rock in your tank waiting to be encrusted.
I have a few things going out this week already so if you want anything for certain just send me a PM. For those asking about the eye droppers I haven't decided on an exact price but if trading for frags I 'll obviously be adding money. I am approximating the value at around 10 bucks. I'll know for sure tommorrow, if you don't care about the end being blasted I can cut that price a couple dollars. Stirrers I can do for pretty cheap depending on the size. For anything else send me a PM. Everything will be made as you ask for it so its to the exact size and shape you need.

I have a really expensive idea... ( I need to brew it a little more, lol )

Can you use a cheaper glass?

Re: Anyone need anything made out of pyrex?

The driving price in glass products is not the glass itself its the amount of time it takes to make something by hand.
Look at a hand made wine glass vs a machine made. Same amount of glass but probably 4 x's the price for a hand made one.

Re: Anyone need anything made out of pyrex?

well I didn't have much time but I was able to make 2 trial runs at the reef balls. This is the simplest method I can use to make them. The holes all meet up across the ball but I was playing with hole placement so they aren't symetrical. The big one is 2 3/4" tall x 2.5 inches in diameter. The small one is 2" x 2" and is going in my tank.
Like the other stuff if you want one I can build it to the size you want and the hole layout/hole size that suit your needs. I figure I can do these for about 15-30 dollars depending on the size and number of holes. Bigal if you wanna demo one of these PM the size of the ball, number of holes and how big you'd like them along with your address.

Don't forget I'll take frags or supplies in trade.

Btw tommorrow I should have some more time so I will make a couple more like the concrete balls so you can see a better comparison.

Re: Anyone need anything made out of pyrex?

srry guys my daugthers B-day has really taken up this whole week and I am laggin a little behind. Stacef I won't be able to send your dropper out till tommorrow.
Interesting thing though. I started using a 15" dropper in my 14g a few days ago and everything is already trained to it. I basically hand feed every single critter in the tank now from the star , to the shrimp , to the emeralds. The Percula doesn't exactly feed from the end of the dropper like the others do but he stays just down current of it. I thought I had a light hand at feeding before but now I am using 1/4 of what I was using. Too bad they don't make frozen cubs in a smaller version..or maybe they do and I just haven't seen them.
