What would be way cool is if you could plumb swim tubes between the two tanks on each level!

two 75 gal. tanks (4 all together) - one above the other. Then in the center will be an entertainment area for our tv/dvd etc.

damage that can arise from poor ventilation. 300 gallons of saltwater will produce a good bit of evaporation
Something else to keep in mind w/ what Scott is pointing out is corrosion. That much salt water in close proximity to sensitive electronics....bad combination. Not in the dangerous sense, just expensive to replace TV's and DVD players every couple of years....

SCR.....the website for MR 4000 is no longer up.....he musta gotten tired of being used as the example of what can happen if you dont take moisture/evaporation/condensation in consideration......(for those that might not be familiar...mr 4000 built a 4000 gallon aqaurium in the basement of his house. he failed to adequately ventilate his basement as his house rotted out from all the condensation....no word as to whether or not that was covered under homeowners insurance...act of God????)
Just things to keep aware of....

i think you have a great idea here but, like alot of people are concerned on your ventilation for all those tanks and i agree.i would reshearch this aspect of the wall unit a little more.plus the fact of maintaining 4 tanks daily would be a chore.maybe just one larger tank.

Ventilation is more of a concern in more humid climates. Here in Nevada it is very dry and not as much of a concern but something that is critical none the less in planning any system.

I am planning a large exhaust fan plus I have my furnace/ac in the room to pull air out. I just want to make sure it doesn't have a hight salt content for corrosion.

In regards to the ventilation:

This unit is not being built directly/encased into the wall. It will be built in front of the wall and will not be going into the ceiling. This will allow for air flow behind, above and in front. We also will be placing 6 ventilation fans on the unit itself. Please see following pics. (These are rough sketches to give you a better idea)
Also, the tanks themselves are not going to be completely incased into the unit there will be air space between each tank and the lighting units. Also the area behind each tank will be open to the wall not incased.

This looks like a great project and I hope all goes well.
Aside from ventilation I would also stress that you give yourself plenty of height between the tanks. Remember you will need to get into the bottom tanks for maintenance and whatnot. I have seen people put tanks in walls and there isn’t enough room for them to get in and work. One customer had a 10’ opening on a 180. This meant that he couldn’t even add fish or LR that were large.
Also If the filter room is big enough try to get a cold water line and a drain there if possible. That way you can make you RO water in there and water changes will be a breeze. My friend has a 640 FO in wall and he changes mondo amounts of water. But with a drain right there and a 150 Vat he does it in less then ½ and hour.
Just a few thoughts

Well after seeing your drawings I have some ideas which may help. Since you are planning on building a complete home entertainment center with DVD & Surround sound you may want to build in sliding roll tops or other similar shades for the tanks so the strong lighting does not distract from your TV viewing. You will also want to move the position of your left and right speakers away from the TV for more stereo separation. You will also like to keep them positioned just above your listening level usually about 42 to 48" inches. If any speakers will be delivering any base sounds below 100hz you will want some type of damping from the unit or it will hum/vibrate from the sound. You will also want to make sure your fans are quiet to avoid back ground noise and you may also consider building insulation in to all of your enclose. For your surround speakers you can run all your wiring behind the unit and under the base molding to hide the wires since you do not have access under the floors or walls. You have started out with a nice design and it looks like your husband has put some planning in it from the start. Good luck hope to see some pictures.

We thought about these after we seen some of the replies but decided not to do it. It would be very neat but what changed our minds was the possiblity of a diesease out break or something else that could happen in one tank and then spread. If they were to be connected and something like this happend then we would have two tanks that need care instead of one. Also, if we end of having fish in the tanks that might not get along with fish in the other tanks that would cause a problem too. Great idea though.

We are going to put lift up flaps that will block the lighting from view.

The speakers on the pic are just ordinary front speakers the rest of the speakers to the surround sounds are going to be placed around the room away from the unit. (Not only are we doing this unit but we are redoing our whole bedroom too)

Thanks for the input and support!
