I removed my SCWD from the closed loop last weekend and replaced it with this return configuration. The return plumbing is connected to the pump (Gen-X/Mak 4) at the gray fitting with 3/4" id clear tubing.

The long side of the return goes all the way down to the top of the sandbed. I capped off one side and drilled some holes in the cap to minimize the flow. I really just wanted to get a little circulation down there to fill in some dead spots. At first I wasn't sure if there was any outflow at all, but I can see a little bit of movement, which is all I wanted. Don't want a sandstorm

The water coming out of the top part is shooting all the way across the tank and crashing into the flow coming from the return (on a SCWD). I think I'm happy with it so far.

Cool! Thanks mojoreef, That's the same place I'm probably going to get my Sequence 750 pump at! I didn’t realize that they also carried the motorized ball valves.

I've also been checking into this new Wavemaker looks pretty good so far! I’ve been watching a post on RC where several people are trying it out to see if there are any problems with the unit.

This thread is right on time. I found that my DIY overflow will only handle 450-500gph after my modifications. So the Mag12 that I was hoping to use as my return pump is now going to be used as a closed loop pump. I'll have to buy another pump for the return. I also have a SCWD, but I'm not sure if I should use it on the CLS with the mag12 or use it on the return with possibly a mag7. What do you think? On the return or CLS? How would I filter the intake on a CLS so as not to clog up the SCWD? Great info so far guys and gals.

Here is Mine it is all 1.5 inch plumbing the returns are reduced down to 3/4th inside the tank. Is goin to be run by a amp 3000. It isnt glued yet still thinking on it but looks like this is it. I may make one more change to eliminate a cpl of 90's with some flex pvc but not sure how I will secure it to the plumbing. I have had some bonding problems with it in the past.

Hope you like it

Jeff

hey pro,
can you post a pic of your closed loop?, i have a 75gal tank, and will probably be going to bare bottom setup, 3000 gph seems kinda high, but if it works for you, id like to see if i can duplicate what you have
thanks

jer-z-reefer,
I can't get a picture of mine. I was in too big of a hurry to get mine back up and running after switching from the Mag 12.
Mine is behind the tank. I will see if I can find the drawings that I have, and post them later tonight.

jer-z-reefer,
Sorry here is the best picture that I got for ya.
It will show you the manifold running accross the top of the tank that hooks into the SCWD in the middle, then runs down to a T that goes to a Valve and then to the Spraybar. The input is just plumbed in 1 1/2" PVC.
