| Plate Coral ![]() | DYI Kalk Doser Hey all, I posted a version of this on the other board. I felt it was a good reference for those thinking of building their own Kalk Doser. This is not a Drip sytem. It cost a total of about $10 to make. This Doser works by a vacume created inside the container. This is the doser. It's a rubbermaid drink container, and is airtight. you can use any airtight container. The tube comming out of the cap is the top off hose. This carries the kalk water to the tank. The tube comming out of the body of the container is the air hose. ![]() attached to the air hose is a hacked check valve. This was added to get enough suction to stop the doser. ![]() This following image shows where I have mine placed. I keep it above the water line of the tank. I found it worked best this way. It could also be placed above a sump. ![]() The waterline hose is placed farther below the airline and check valve. This is inside the preskimmer box for my skimmer. ![]() When the water line drops below the lip of the check valve air is sucked in and pressure equilizes inside the container. The water hose releases the kalk mix into the water. When the water reaches and covers the lip of the check valve, water is sucked into the airhose, and a vacume is created inside the container. At this point the flow of kalk mix is slowed and stopped. When testing this method I would suggest using RO water, and not Kalk mix. I made this mistake and had a huge pH spike. Hopefully this will help some of you out. Peace ![]() EK |
