Heliuxs DIY Frag tank system

This is where im going to post my ultimate idea of taking a couple tanks and making them all one big system for frags!

Here is how imma start this out! I have a 55g tank and 3 29gallon tanks, im going to get 3 over flow boxs and connect them in the sense of each tank being the next step. So first it goes to the 55g with a glass slate siliconed in the dead center horizontally. Then imma suspend egg crate above the glass for the frags to set. Then im going to take 3 maxi jet 1140 and set them all on the bottom left of the tank facing right and blowing straight under the glass slate. Thus having that moving the water at all times! The frags will be atleast 3 inchs under the water so they dont get torched. Then im going to have live rock on the bottom right side of the tank for added filtration.

Next step, This will have it where the overflow will take the water into the tank to the right or left side of the tank(depending on where i put it) and do all that process over again but with a 29 gallon, smaller slate and eggcrate, and only 2 550 maxijets with the live rock.

Next step will be the exactly same way as the second step in every way.

Last step will be a custom sump made from a 29 gallon tank with 4 slates in there to seperate the bioballs, the sponges, the phos-ban, and carbon. Then after the water goes through all those stages it will come into the refugy type of area with the most live rock able to be fit in there. To the right of the rock will be my return pump back up to the main 55g tank and the process will start over!

Here is a picture of the drawing for the basic plan of it. Trying to fit a calcium reactor in there but need to figure out how to do that myself as well... lol. measurements will be posted later once i get it undercontrol and know the basics of what i need done. But enjoy my crappy drawing!

Re: Heliuxs DIY Frag tank system

are you expecting the light to get to all 3 tanks? if you have a 55g frag tank i dont think you will be needing much more room then that unless your going to be fragging alot of corals....im not much help right now but im sure some others here will chime in and give you some advise...have you researched many frag tanks? you might find a better idea...

Re: Heliuxs DIY Frag tank system

I would go with 40g Breeder tanks. shorter of a tank so the metal halides don't have to penetrate as far down. You can use 175w MH. Iwasaki bulbs! If you don't have the cash for 40gb use 20L tanks.

These are tanks i have and no i dont expect them to hit them all just what i could draw right now. They wont have to penetrate down to far because imma have the slate hold them half way up as it is.
