1/2 compression fitting

I'm looking for a 1/2" compression fitting made of plastic so I can put a PH probe into a DIY Calcium Reactor. I've surfed the internet to no avail. Anybody know where I can get one?

Re: 1/2 compression fitting

Its easier to make one than to find one. They used to sell them at premium aquatics and still may. If you get a 1/2 JG type fitting at lowes or home depot it can be easily moded. Pry out the lock, remove the oring, use a 1/2 forsner bit to drill the little bit of plastic that is used for the stop and put it back together. Thats it quick and simple, can also be used for any other reason you would want tube to go all the way through a sealed fitting.

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

Re: 1/2 compression fitting

I cannot believe I didn't think of drilling out a fitting! I found them at Lowes but not one that the probe would go all the way through. Thanks Don!

Big Al, This is a mod for a Calc reactor I made last year. I'll photo the mod for ya! I'll pour ketchup on it for a retro DIY effect.

I'm sorry the explanation wasnt very clear. The quick disconnect fitting we use for our rodi's and calcium reactors is what I'm talking about.
The tube will only push in a certain amount before it stops. We need to get rid of the stop so that the tube will push all the way through. The little lock ring that you normally push to remove the tube needs to be removed but saved. Under the lock ring is a o-ring that also needs to be removed and saved. This gives you a clean drill guide for a 1/2" forsner type drill bit. Push the bit into the fitting until it exits the other side. Your just drilling about 1/16" to remove the stop. Now just put the o-ring and lock back where you found them.

Now the ph probe will just push through the fitting into the reactot and be sealed by the o-ring and locked by the fitting.

Hope this helps
Don

Without a doubt, I'm THRILLED that Don has joined us here at RS. He's already done a lot of the things that I'm in the process of doing.
