Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...(-NO3=WC%)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!

They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Re: My DIY LED Lights

Hey Cassette, If you ever need anyone to test these things out, or maybe store them for you for a couple years, let me know. I live right down the street in Orland Park. I am thinking about buying a solaris, but maybe I should wait and see what you come up with as long as it cheaper than solaris and works well I'd be willing to give it a shot.

Keep us posted. I am interested, probably won't be able to buy one, but the want is there all the same. Maybe a small one for my sump...

Re: My DIY LED Lights

Hah! I'm in here guys.. no worries. although the projects been on a bit of hiatus, I've finished all of my wiring schematics and have had to rethink some of my wants/needs for the prototype as far as manufacturing materials go. My prototype's casing will be made from White pine, which i'll fancy up with the router once assembled and stain and clear to match my tank's cabinet. At first I didn't like the idea of using wood, but it's growing on me... plus unless I go into production, using acrylic is not going to be cost effective... or efficient for that matter. If everything does pan out, I'll be making myself a mold for parts of the casing and taking it to the next level, but for now the prototype will need to change a bit.

Re: My DIY LED Lights

Wow. Great work. Glad there was an update or I might have missed this thread. Anxiously awaiting to see how this turns out. What is you goal for this? What type of tank do you plan on keeping?

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of competition out there for led systems so might be a great way to start a business.

That's what prototypes are for!! Heck you could even use something easier to work with like chloroplast (spelling?) which is plastic cardboard if you would work out the heat issues.

Do you have the unit operational? I'm curious about heat and where it builds up. Maybe work out some passive cooling instead of noisy and power robbing fans.
