Questions about painting a stand

So i have my stand skinned and the inside sealed, and i have decided to go with a blood red paint with black trim. Since this is a solid colour, i was hoping for some hints to get it nice and clean looking. I only have access to a sprayer at work, so i was going to roll the primer and all but the last coat, then i'll lightly sand (600 grit) the 2nd last coat, take the stand in to work, and spray the last coat on. I also plan to use a sanding sealer before i start the process, and i have adequately tinted primer.

so here are the questions:
1) will it be ok doing most of the coats with a roller? or should i just do it all with the sprayer.
2) how many coats of primer and paint should i apply?

I think that since you will be sanding between coats it wouldn't make a difference.
I would love to see some pics of the process as you go

i think it would be easier with the sprayer because its going to take some time to sand in between each coat. and depending on how smooth it goes on with the roller is what will make a difference. IMO i would use the sprayer. I always have a friend use his sprayer to get everything looking glossy smooth. I never seem to get the same finish by rolling and sand paper.

Booze i will be taking pics for sure, however, i use slide film, so expect to wait a couple of weeks for pics. I have been clicking away like crazy tho, and should run out one of my rolls soon, then i can get some pics developed and scanned. Reefguy thatnks for the tips. I'm impatient, so i will probably start rolling on the primer tonite, and depending how far i get, i'll take it in tomorrow to work and spray the rest of the coats

First primer coat is on, done with a roller, and it looks pretty darn good. I think sanding before each coat and doing the final coat with a sprayer should get me the desired results. If not, well, i'll just have to live with it.

Heres a pic of the last primer coat, looking pretty good. Should be able to do the paint coats tonite (hopefully before getting too drunk)

if the paint is relatively hard you can always wetsand it with a block of wood with sand paper over it, to get a smooth look the after the last coat of base you can clear the whole project to protect the paint, from rodents, small kids,and the household domesticated furry critter of choice

Guess I should update this...

heres a pic with stand and canopy painted.

Next time i'll just buy good wood instead of using scraps from work and trying to hide it with paint. Overall I'm happy with the appearance, but would have been happier if I had access to a painting booth. IMO good stained wood will always look better.
