| Reef Shark ![]() | You don't really show a picture of your "weir" box, I'm presuming that it's what us Yanks call an overflow , but if it's glass, and siliconed into place, I think the only way to do i would be to drain the tank, remove it and have it cut. I don't see any other way to do it safely. You MIFHT get away with using a glass cutter & pliers to break it at the score mark, but I'd be awfully nervous that the whole thing might break, and you'd really have a mess. |

| They misunderestimated me ![]() | Probably could get away with a dremel and the proper bit. I have seen quite a few threads of people doing this on other sites. I think on of the nano sites show people cutting a ten gallon tank to create an external overflow... Just a thought. Mike |

| Reef Lobster | Hey mps .... yeah, I've heard of the dremel method too ..... I might give that a go. Boomer, thanks for the reply bud, but I'd rather have the height problems rather than drain the tank down again. LOL - Weir Box / Overflow. TG picked me up on another one the other day ..... BactoBalls / BioBalls. I wonder how many other's there are out there. Brucey

| Reef Shark ![]() | Well Bruce, undoubtedly there are quite a few other terms that are different, but we still manage to communicate! I was a bit concerned about getting all that glass powder/chips in the tank by the grinding method. Maybe a visit to your local glass shop might yield some answers. |

| DIY Moderator ![]() | Brucey, I have drained down tanks, to be lower than the grinding area, and used a grinding stone. To grind out a hole in glass, to go to the next larger size bulkhead. Just remember, go slow, you don't want to heat the glass to much or it will crack.
