| Fire Coral | Im in the process of building a new canopy. My light fixture was the exact same length as the canopy so Im going to remove the housing.this way I can position the lights where ever I want. Question is where do I ground the wire that was previously screwed into the aluminum housing now that theres only wood? Any help will be greatly appreciated ![]()

| Golden Moray | I would suspect that the lighting fixture is wired in such a way as to be grounded on it's own. The wire was likely to make sure the metal housing was grounded as well in case it came into contact with other electrical devices. You could test the ground with a multitester. However, electricity and water don't mix so this needs to be confirmed. Hopefully, some other people who come along will see this and help you. You have to KNOW you're grounded....you can't THINK you're grounded. We'd like to keep you around a while Nugio.

| Elegance coral ![]() | Well as the Dood said if your using a metal reflector, that is where you will need to go with the ground. Also what Curts said is true, that ground is protecting any possible electrical encounters with the metal hood, thus if you remove all the metal their is no need for that ground. If you make a larger hood and reinstall the metal cover, then you will need that ground again. I have my ballast grounded but from the ballast it goes to the end caps that I've mounted on the hood, I have no ground up there but It wouldn't hurt to ground the reflector for the very same reason.

| Fire Coral | Thanks all So it'd be ok to screw the ground into the aluminum braket that the mogul is screwd to which is attached to the wood? Sorry if I sound dense but i wanna stay around for awhile like curt said![]()
